Monitored and managed technical aspects of power distribution, mainly operation & maintenance of power distribution network (33 kV & below), extensions (construction) in net-work including construction of new power (33/11 kV) & distribution (11/0.4 kV) sub-stations, capacity additions at 33/11 kV sub-stations and new 33 kV & below distribution lines. Monitored and managed the assembly of small Steam Turbines up to 8 MW, as Engineer-in-Charge (Fitting-Assy Shop).

Undergone class room and on job induction training of Power generation, transmission & distribution along with various Commercial, Human Resources & Personal Administration, Industrial Management concepts.

 

Assistant Engineer (OPERATION), at Obra TPS, Sonbhadra, U.P. of UPRVUNL, State Govt. undertaking (Erstwhile UPSEB) [Dec. 1991 to Aug. 1992]:

Worked with various divisions and circles of the power plant with an extensive exposure to operation, maintenance, stores procurement & inventory control, efficiency monitoring & improvement, renovation & modernization, training and maintenance planning aspects of 110 MW Units. Subsequently associated with installation of 660 MW Super Critical Unit at Panki TPS.

Major assignments, responsibilities, projects – associated with / executed during tenure at Panki TPS:

Renovation & Modernization of Units:

(A) Crash R&M Scheme, 2x110 MW Units: 

Associated with preparation & execution of Renovation and Modernization scheme for 2x110 MW units known as “Crash program for 2x110 MW units”. The scheme was prepared during 2000 and executed during 2003-2006.


(B) Studies for revival & life extension of old 2x32 MW units:  

Associated with exploration of various possibilities (during 2001-2004) for revival and refurbishment of unit no. 2 of the old 2x32 MW units prior to its permanent closure. Techno Economic feasibility of utilization of old 32 MW Turbine with a new FBC Boiler OR with a combined cycle plant had been explored. Further possibilities of replacement of old PC boilers of 2x32 MW Units with new AFBC boilers was also studied in detail and a report on techno economic viability for the same was prepared.


PIE (Partnership in Excellence) program of Ministry of Power, GoI, 2005-2008:

Monitored and actively associated, as Assistant-Engineer (PIE Implementation) with implementation of PIE (Partnership in Excellence) program of Ministry of Power, Government of India, at Panki Thermal Power Station, since the beginning of the program in Jul 2005 till its completion in May 2008.

During last phase of program (Oct 07 – May 08), Panki Thermal Station has achieved ever highest values of many of the performance parameters since its inception including maximum average loading on the units, Monthly PLF of the plant, Monthly PLF of individual units, Daily generation of the plant, daily generation & daily PLF of units.

 

JICA Program on “Energy Conservation Techniques for India” 

Nominated for the team of Indian Energy Experts to attend international program on “Energy Conservation Techniques for India” from August 22, 2010 to September 25, 2010, at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Kitakyushu, Japan. The program was designed to address specific issues / problems in the field of Energy Conservation through Machine diagnostic techniques from the Japanese experience / exposure and to improve the ability of individuals to solve existing problems and to develop effective energy conservation measures. 

Impact Evaluation of USAID-INDIA, GEP Program: The GEP program, one of the longest-running USAID environmental programs in India (1994-2010), was focused on the issues of power plant efficiency improvement and GHG emissions reductions from India’s coal‐fired power generation. NTPC – CENPEEP founded under the program along with NTPC experts were closely associated with UPRVUNL power plants (including Panki TPS units) during above tenure (including PIE implementation period). The program resulted in adequate reductions in CO2 emissions and reduced coal consumption at power plants by performance optimization, efficiency improvements and the use of washed coal. Associated with three members multi-national team as one of the team member for USAID Review of program in Aug-Sept 2011. Designated Energy Manager

Nominated & worked as Designated Energy Manager for Panki Thermal Power Station, under provisions of Energy Conservation Act 2001, Govt. of India, [w.e.f. July 2010 – June 2019].

Panki TPS achieved the target of Energy Efficiency and saved energy much above its assigned target, thus earned E Certs during 1st PAT Cycle (2012-15) even after its old units. 


Other Important Assignments / Responsibilities, at Panki TPS [2005-2019]:

(A) Member & convener outage committee for executing several annual / capital overhauls of units, 2005- 2017. 

(B) Coordinator, Energy Efficiency Cell, Panki Thermal Power Station, Kanpur since April 2008 – July 2010

(C) Executed performance analysis and energy efficiency study at Parichha Thermal Power Plant, UPRVUNL, Jhansi in Feb 2009.

(D) Nominated as Designated Energy Manager for Panki Thermal Power Station, under provisions of Energy Conservation Act 2001, since July 2010 – June 2019.

(E) Headed Maintenance Planning Division as Executive Engineer, Maintenance Planning Division w.e.f. Jan 2011 – June 2019.

(F) Head, Efficiency Division of the Power Station as additional charge of “Executive Engineer, Efficiency Division” for about two & a half years during 2011-2014. 

(G) Headed Central Purchase Division and Central Stores Division of the Power Station as additional charge of “Executive Engineer, during 2011 – 2012.

Installation of 660 MW Super Critical Coal Fired Unit: Instrumental for installation of 660 MW Super Critical Coal Fired Unit at Panki TPS, starting from the issue of TOR (terms of reference) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in 2014 up to the Environmental Clearance (EC) awarded by the Ministry in 2017 & subsequent installation process of unit after its final clearance in 2018. Nominated as “Environment Officer” for monitoring the necessary compliance of EC Conditions and Specific Conditions, issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change [w.e.f. March 18 to June 19]. Also nominated as “Nodal Officer” to monitor over all Environmental safe-guard of various issues during installation of 660 MW UNIT, as per directions of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change [w.e.f. March 18 to June 19].

Foundation (Shilanayas) Ceremony of 660 MW Super Critical Unit by the Prime Minister.

Foundation stone of 660 MW Super Critical Unit was laid by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi Ji on 8th March 2019. Become instrumental in organizing the event successfully. Co-ordinated with the Prime Minister Office, the Chief Minister Office, the Energy Minister Office, UPRVUNL Head Quarter and the District Administration to organize the event successfully.

Academic / Research Works / Assignments:

M. Tech. Research Thesis:

Exergy Analysis for Performance Improvement of a Coal Fired Power Plant : A Case Study of PTPS. The work was based on application of second law of thermodynamics for energy efficient designing and operation of the conventional coal fired power generating stations. 

Irreversibilities associated with energy conversion and heat transfer processes, responsible for lowering the efficiency of practical power plant cycle, comparing with an ideal cycle were estimated at running 2X110 MW units installed at Panki thermal power station, Kanpur, and recommendations were made to improve the energy conversion efficiency resulting in effective future designs of coal power plants.
